About

This French walnut marquetry folding game box from the turn of the 20th century is for both checkers and backgammon. It is finely constructed with dovetailed corners, inset hinges, and a locking brass hook on each side. The checker board side of the box displays individual squares of pear wood with each alternating square ebonized to form the Classic playing surface. Each end of the board is inlaid with Fine lines of pear wood to form a rectangle where captured pieces are placed. The opposite side of the box when open is a backgammon board lined with felt. The box measures 17.75 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 2 inches high when opened. Included are 30 wooden playing pieces, two leather shakers, and two pairs of dice, circa 1900.
