About

1897 Bamboo bicycle. Cataloged by The Henry Ford Museum as. Bamboo Cycle Co. LTD., E. C. England. Pneumatic safety. Tires marked 28-1 3/4", Deaccessioned from The Henry Ford Museum, ACC. NO. 30.1647.3. You can still see the hand painted inventory numbers on the bottom back bamboo rod. The bicycle is untouched since it came out of the museum and it has been over painted with some imperfections in the wood. We left it as is. I am always amazed how modern looking a 120 year old bicycle can be.

The frame is painted light yellow with metal joints brown. Nickel handlebars are turned down and have brown leather and wood handles. The 28 inch rims are wood with a wide white stripe bordered in black. The saddle is leather and is marked... Manufactured in Birmingham England Mansfield. This bicycle was introduced at the Stanley Cycle Show in London, November 1893.
