George III Scottish Horn Snuff Mull and Spoon, circa 1810

About

A fine example of a George III Scottish curled Horn snuff mull, with hinged lid and a pierced spoon. Scotland, circa 1810. The silver rim acts as the mount for a silver hinge to which is attached a well-fitting lid which is made of Horn, lined with cork and embellished with a silver thistle head and leaves all emerging from the hinge plate together with a cartouche of rectangular form with clipped corners and engraved with initials: E K. It is very rare to find a snuff mull with spoon as these were easily lost over time. The silver rim bears the inscription... 'Mounted by the Society of Journeymen Printers in Edin' and Presented to Ebenezer Kay as a token of their esteem for his faithful services Sept. 25, 1810. More information supplied on request. Dimensions: Height: 4.8 inches (12.2 cm) Width: 4.3 inches (11 cm).
