Marilyn Monroe 1950 Magazine Cut-Out with Certificate of Authenticity

About the Item

- A Marilyn Monroe 1950 Autographed Magazine Cut-Out, attractively framed with UV-filtering archival glass Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) is regarded as the most iconic female star that Hollywood ever produced. Singer, model and actress, she starred in popular movies such as The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot, winning a Golden Globe for the latter. In order to avoid typecasting as a 'dumb blonde', she applied herself to the cultivation of her acting skills, by studying at the Actors Studio. Plagued by illness later in life, her tragic death was a great loss to Hollywood. Description: This magazine cut-out, 3.75" x 2.25", features the actress' autograph, which she has signed under her black and white photo. The autograph is clearly written in black pen across the picture's caption: "Marilyn Monroe in "The Asphalt Jungle" Director John Huston (M-G-M)." The document is in excellent condition. 1950's film noir, The Asphalt Jungle, was based on W. R. Burnett's book of the same name. Monroe played a minor, but key, role and was as yet an unknown when the film was produced. The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards and, in 2008, was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Comparables: Marilyn Monroe memorabilia is extremely popular with collectors and this is reflected in the prices these items regularly fetch at auction. In 1999, the dress Monroe wore when she sang Happy Birthday Mr. President sold for $1,150,000 and in 2011 the white dress she wore in the famous subway scene in The Seven Year Itch sold for a World Record price of $5.6 million. But it is not just Monroe's dresses that are popular with collectors. A signed photo of Marilyn, from the personal collection of Joe DiMaggio, sold for $63,250 in 2010. The investment potential in Monroe memorabilia is reflected in the PFC40 Autograph Index which shows that Monroe's autograph has increased in value by 128.8% in the last 11 years.
