This early Arts & Crafts era pendant has an aesthetic beauty that you don't find anymore in this day and age. It has the most pleasing to the eye shape and amber color and the handcrafted brass has a marvelous patina. In images 2 and 3 you can see that this unique light fixture started its life as (and still is) a candle lantern. Because of the Gothic quatrefoil details this may have been a sanctuary lamp at the entrance of a church or monastery. The beautifully patinated brass is all hand-crafted, but the unique art glass shade with its unique hand-etched, flowery patterns and amazing color is what makes this antique truly special. Have you also noticed the 'stand-alone' etched oak branches with acorns? They symbolize growth and unlimited potential since an acorn can grow into a huge oak tree that, by itself, can seed an entire forest. Largest Antique & Top Quality Hand Carved Gothic Revival Barometer & Thermometer

Exceptional and unique, 3 feet tall, Gothic Revival wall barometer, circa 1890.
This unique antique from the second half of the 19th century, in our view, is the dream of anyone with a Gothic (inspired) interior. This design could not be more Gothic and to have found a barometer of this size and with this many Gothic details, again, felt like a blessing. And even though we had to pay-up to be able to acquire it, when you find an antique that is this rare and good then you should always try to buy it. This monumental and solid nutwood antique barometer is entirely hand carved and, as you can see in our photos, the workmanship is second to none. This work of Gothic wall art is perfectly symmetrical and we love the fact that only the large church pilars are carved in a different pattern. This rare design feature, to us, shows the creative nature of its designer. We also love the many Gothic church spires on top and the way this entire 'composition' is superbly balanced. There also is small 'ledge' underneath the barometer and thermometer, possibly for displaying some small sculptures. The only downside would be that the inside of the barometer/thermometer is not squeaky clean. Maybe it is easy to open the front of the barometer, but we have no experience with that. Have you also noticed the amazingly detailed Gothic leafs at the top of both the large pilars? They too display the amazing workmanship of a seasoned craftsman. Besides the enormous height and width, what also makes this rare barometer truly impressive is its depth, because this almost gives you the idea of looking at a magnificent barometer through 3D glasses. A magnificent nearly 250 year old Louis XVI period (1774–1793) hand carved and painted parcel gilt French wall thermometer and barometer signed Carcano.
Exquisitely hand-crafted in Paris, France in the second half of the 18th century, exceptionally executed in Neoclassical inspired opulent period King Louis 16th taste. Impressive large size and fine quality craftsmanship, richly detailed, sculpted, polychrome decorated wooden case, surmounted by an ornate carved pineapple topped urn finial, garnished with a single garland swag, over a contoured and rounded solid wood frame creating a most elegant elongated banjo cartel clock silhouette, adorned with brilliant water gilded running ornamentation, outlining the beautifully aged light and airy muted pale green paint finish.
Featuring the original hand decorated enamel dial signed Antonio Carcano (1755-1820) a distinguished scientific instrument inventor.

Having a hand-blown glass thermometer retaining remnants of the hand-painted paper label inscribed with atmospheric condition details, over an early barometer with hand painted dial and metal hands, protected behind convex glazed glass face.
Mechanical:
The wooden planked verso is fitted with an open channel that retains the original mechanical components, including a pair of liquid metal mercury filled glass tubes, vacuum mechanism, long column blown glass tube, stringing, and more. It does not appear to be working / operational, the string/rope deteriorating with age, etc.. but having the original parts is an exceptionally rare occurrence and highly unusual, as workings were commonly damaged and lost centuries ago.

Antoine Carcano (c. 1755-1820)
An early maker of barometers, thermometers, and an inventor of various scientific instruments. Of Italian descent, he became famous in Paris, first at 37 rue de la Roquette and then at Place Dauphine. He supplied barometers and other scientific instruments to the Ecole Militaire in 1786; the following year he supplied a tube barometer to British optical instruments manufacturer Peter Dollond (1731-1821).
