Regency Satinwood Miniature Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A good quality late Regency Period, 19th century, satinwood miniature chest of attractive small proportions having well figured and crossbanded top, over three drawers with original turned wooden knobs, raised on elegant original splayed feet with shaped apron.
A chariming little 19th century miniature chest of drawers, which is shallower than most and therefore attractively proportioned. It also boasts beautifully figured satinwood veneers which have retained an excellent colour and patina. This would probably have been made as a travelling salesmans...

Regency Miniature Mahogany Breakfast Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
An exceptional Quality Regency Period Miniature mahogany centre, or breakfast table, having superbly figured circular tilting top over turned central column and elegant four splay base, retaining original brass castors.
Sometimes there is debate as to the original purpose of antique miniature furniture. There are predominantly two types, that which was made as an apprentice piece and that which was made as a salesmans sample piece. There was also some miniature furniture of a particular scale which would have been made as dolls house furniture...

Regency Mahogany Childs Chest of Drawers
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful regency period mahogany childs chest, having well figured top over two short and three long drawers with replacement brass knobs, raised on original splayed feet with elegant shaped apron.
Childrens furniture is generally found much less often rarer than its full size and scale counterparts for many reasons, the most obvious of which being that there was simply far less of these effective scale models produced.
Generally childrens furniture was made to the same specifications, but on a smaller scale, for the children of wealthy families to have and to use.
This childs chest is a nice one, good quality and constructed from good, well figured timbers. The brass knobs are later replacements, it would probably have had turned wooden ones originally, however these brass ones work rather well and sit very attractively.
From a purely practical perspective it is the perfect size to be used in a whole host of different spaces around the home, but would make an excellent modern day coffee table type item alongside a chair, or sofa.
As with all items which we offer for sale this childs chest of drawers...

Georgian Mahogany Miniature Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Good Quality And Charming Early 19th Century Mahogany Miniature Chest, Having Well Figured Top Over Three Long Drawers With Original Brass Knobs And Boxwood Inlaid Escutcheons, Over Elegant Shaped Apron With Original Splayed Bracket Feet.
There is regular debate over whether miniature furniture was made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who was looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents. Or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans sample piece, which is when a few items were produced as scale models but a well established workshop as a form of physical catalogue in advance of a travelling salesman’s road trip around the country, for him to use to try and fill his order book with full size counterparts.
We believe that this particular little Georgian Miniature Chest was probably made as an apprentice piece, due to the relative simplicity of it, combined with the exceptional execution, which maybe suggests that somebody was very much trying to impress somebody else. It is also slightly unusual in form, which again suggests it was made more as a one off item with a specific purpose, as opposed to a scale model of other items.
It is certainly a charming piece of antique miniature furniture...

Late Regency 19th Century Burr Oak Miniature Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful Regency Period burr oak miniature chest having
Superbly figured top above two short & three long drawers with
Original brass knobs flanked by elegant fluted stiles raised on
Original brass ball feet
(Often much debate is had as to whether miniature furniture was
made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking
for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase
their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans
sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as
scale models in advance of a road trip during which the salesman
would travel the country showing prospective clients
the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and
take orders from. This particular miniature chest of drawers
is probably the latter and would have been made as a sample
piece. The construction is exquisite and the attention to tiny
detail phenomenal in all honesty. They work that would have
gone into constructing this with all of its fine details would actually
have been more of a challenge and taken a more skilled
craftsmen than its full size counterparts would have done.
It is also super quality and unusual being constructed from burr
oak which has taken on an exceptional rich colour and patina
over the years of its life. A really quite charming piece of
antique miniature furniture...

Antique Italian Micromosaic Plaque Depicting the Capitoline Doves
Located in London, GB
This Fine, circular micromosaic plaque shows four doves drinking water from a golden bowl, upon which they perch. The Classical design for the mosaic is taken from one found in the Roman Emperor Hadrian's villa in the 2nd century AD.
