Antique Portable HMV Gramophone Mod 102 Green with Disc Carrier, 1934

About the Item

This really excellent portable gramophone was made by 'His Master's Voice' Model: 102C first made in 1931, this one dates from 1934. Serial no:B/2 38644 This is a de-luxe variant in green leathercloth, a rare colour. It was very popular in its day and now due to its superb playing quality. HMV 102 is still widely recognised as marking the pinnacle of portable gramophone design. It remained in production, with minor changes, from 1931 until the late 1950s. This model is finished in green Rexine leathercloth with a green motor board, the internal fittings are chromium plated. It has got an automatic or manual start/stop, via selector lever. Single spring motor with the 5a soundbox and very proportional tone arm and horn system. Offered with a rare extra, the disc carrier, useful to carry your discs inside the player when travelling. Offered with a manual for the HMV 102. Condition: In excellent working condition, please see photos for confirmation. The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting of the dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone. In the photograph on which the painting was based, the dog was listening to a phonograph cylinder.
