Alpine Mountaineering Photograph, 'CLIMBER' Taken from 1930s Original

About the Item

Vintage Alpine Mountaineering photograph. 'CLIMBER' Simelistock, Switzerland, a new mounted black and white photographic image after an original 1930s mountaineering photograph. Engelhoerner is the name for a group of limestone mountains that are hidden behind several higher mountains like the Wetterhorn and Wildgerst. These small mountains (Rosenlauistock (2198 m), the Kingspitz, Simmelistock, Mittelgruppe, etc.) are well sort after by rock climbers as there is a huge choice of easy and difficult routes. Within the Engelhoerner is a tiny valley, called Ochsental, looking to the west. The first Engelhorn hut was built in this valley in the year 1912 by the Academic Alpine Club Berne, since this lonesome and creekless valley is the starting point for the majority of the climbs. An avalanche destroyed this hut and the present accomodation is surrounded by trees at the foot of the Simelistock, 15 minutes below the Ochsen Valley. The Ochsen Valley is surrounded by the following peaks (starting north clockwise): Klein Simelistock, Gross Simelistock, Vorderspitze, Gertrudspitze, Ulrichspitze, Mittelspitze Kl. Engelhorn, Gemsenspitze, Gr. Engelhorn, Haubenstock, Niklausspitze, Froschkopf, Prinzen, Kingspitz, Kastor, Pollux, Sattelspitze, Engelburg, Tannspitze, Rosenlauistock. The price displayed is for the mounted photo only. The external size of the mount is 20 ½' x 14 ¾' - image size 15 ½' X 10'. The alpine photograph is available in a hand coloured reeded wooden frame. Images of the frame are shown. The external size of the frame is 22' x 16' and it is priced at £110. The photographs are also available in a larger size, the external size of the mount is 36 ½' x 25' - image size 30 ¾' X 19 ½' and is priced at £160. This mount can also be framed in the hand finished frame, external size 38 ½' X 27 ¼', priced at £290.
