Antique Hand Carved Oak Winged Ox Sculpture, Symbol of Saint Luke the Evangelist
About the Item
Unique and amazingly hand carved Saint Luke symbol wall sculpture.
This relatively large, hand carved Gothic Revival wall plaque is another one of our recent rare finds. All hand carved out of thick and solid oak and with some of the best details we ever saw, this church relic dates back to the earliest years of the 19th century. However, the quality of this evangelist symbol carving is so good that it could also be late 18th century. Over the centuries some repairs were done and there clearly also are some parts missing. However, the quality of this ecclesiastical antique is so good and this meaningful piece is so rare that we don't see that as a problem at all. When we first saw it, we immediately knew we had to have it. Mind you, Saint Luke was also the first Christian physician and he was venerated by the Catholic Church as the patron Saint of physicians and surgeons. We therefor believe that this particular antique will be extra desirable for any Christian doctor as well. Thanks to an integrated metal hook on the back, mounting this unique sculpture is child's play.
If you realize the rarity, enjoy the beauty, value the deeper meaning and respect the top quality workmanship as much as we do then maybe you should be its next custodian. No matter where you decide to have this meaningful antique on display, its quality carvings and deeper meaning will never fail to impress. This amazing sculpture certainly is great value for money and our price includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days.

- Antique Hand Carved Gothic Column Stand with Saint Luke, Mark & John SculpturesLocated in Lisse, NLOne of a kind and meaningful, Gothic Revival pedestal / planter / candle holder. Finding unique antiques that are unlike anything we ever saw always makes us feel grateful. When we first saw this large, entirely handcrafted and handcarved column we thought it was a church pedestal for displaying a saint sculpture on top. However, when we noticed the open top with the zinc, removable liner inside, we realized this was in fact a Gothic Revival plant stand with a possibility to also have a sculpture on display in the middle section. Thanks to the zinc liner this beautiful workmanship antique can also be used as a candle stand (as shown in some of our photos), creating a marvelous atmosphere with the burning candles behind the Gothic carvings around the hexagonal top. At the base of this unique stand are three handcarved sculptures of a winged bull (symbolizing Saint Luke...Category

- Antique Hand Carved Large Size Statue of Saint Joseph and Child Jesus SculptureLocated in Lisse, NLLarge and high quality carved antique sculpture of Joseph holding the child Jesus. If you are looking for a great value for money, work of religious art then this quality carved church relic could be gracing your home or monastery or house of prayer soon. This may not have been carved out of the most expensive or hard woodtype, but that is not what this antique is about. This striking and meaningful sculpture is all about the natural manner in which both the little boy Jesus and Saint Joseph have been hand-carved out of wood and how an accomplished sculptor clearly has spent a whole lot of time, focus and dedication to get the details of this large and meaningful sculpture very right. In this case, the hands and feet, the curly hair, the serene facial expressions, the perfectly natural body postures AND the perfect draping of the cloths are the most eye-catching details. Ones that most mortals would never be able to create like this and it will have taken this skilled artisan weeks rather than days to create. We believe that this unique antique is made of basswood or pine and it has been hand patinated (original). This was probably done to make the entire sculpure look more warm and calm (no wood grains taking away anything from the beautiful details we described). This meaningful and quality crafted work of religious art is ready for you to enjoy and, to us, it breathes a holy serenity and beauty that will never fail to impress. No matter where you decide to have it on display, this ecclesiastical antique will never fail to impress and if you already have a place in mind for 'them' then maybe you should be their next custodian.
