Large Antique Bronze Gothic Revival Candle Chandelier and Church Sanctuary Lamp

Impressive, seven light Gothic chandelier from the 1800s.
This rare and beautiful looking church chandelier is another one of our recent great finds. The design with all the amazing, handcrafted bronze details and the ancient patina makes this Gothic antique an absolute joy to own and look at. Only when you realize just how much work went into first designing and then creating this bronze work of religious art, will you look at it in the way that it deserves to be seen. Before you can start to cast the individual pieces (and this chandelier has many), you have to first carve them out of wood or some other type of hard material. That alone will take days if not weeks. From all the handcrafted parts that, together, will make this chandelier, you must then make molds. All the molds must then be filled with either, liquid brass, bronze or spelter. In this case bronze. After that, all the surplus material from the castings must be removed and all pieces must be finished, polished and some pieces individually gilt and/or hand painted. Finally all pieces must be fitted together by drilling small holes and using small nuts and bolts (in those days also handcrafted). In this chandelier there also are glass gemstones (all handcut also) inlaid in the bronze stars at the bottom. After reading this, you will understand why they don't make 'em like this anymore. Creating chandeliers by hand like this will make them far too costly in this day and age. We can let the photos do the talking, but we would like to point out the hand painted and rare budded crosses all around this chandelier. They look like they are enameled and their red color against the light blue background make them Stand out even more. These three budded crosses represent the Trinity, meaning ofcourse God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Especially with the six candles and their natural warm light burning, this church chandelier simply looks divine. The purple painted glass vessel in the centre is not original to this chandelier, but she could be replaced by a modern copy red one, if that is what you would prefer.
