Rare Set of 4 Antique Miniature Saint Paintings, 3 in Brass Gothic Frames 1890

About the Item

Beautifully hand painted set of 4 Mary & Jesus paintings on porcelain plaques. If you were to spend the rest of your week looking for antique Gothic photo frames then you would be very fortunate if you found one. Not only were we offered the chance to purchase three, the ones we were offered even hold the original miniature paintings (on small porcelain plaques). All these three antique brass frames come with the original, hand-engraved details. The frame with the painting depicting the apparition of Mary to Bernadette in Lourdes, France on March, 25th of 1858 also has some beautiful enameling in it. In tiny letters over the upper body of Mary it also reads (in French) 'i am the immaculate conception'. In the other mint condition frames also are mint condition porcelain plaques with stunning miniature paintings of Mary and one of Mary and the child Jesus. Both the colors and the details reveal the work of a master craftsman and you could not wish for a more beautiful, meaningful and decorative trio. The final item in this listing is a top quality painted and again mint condition miniature of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns. The faux-wooden (resin) frame is of a later date, but it perfectly complements this oval painting on porcelain. For three antique brass Gothic frames of circa 130 years old to still be in this amazing condition is one thing, but to also find in them three Fine Art miniature paintings that are fit for a museum, more than made our day. The details in these hand painted works of religious art are simply amazing and the colors are as fresh and vibrant as the day they were created, all those years ago.
