Rare Set of Four French Baroque Style Hand Carved Giltwood Processional Crosses

About the Item

A rare set of four antique French Baroque style hand carved giltwood baton de ceremonies or processional crosses used in a village cathedral in the South of France, circa 1850s. These exceptional crosses each have a carved, silver gilded dove representing the Holy Spirit in the center. The centers are surrounded by the four corners of the cross, with one being the central column. The metal rays around the outer edges symbolize the power and majesty of the crucified and risen Christ and the victory he achieved over death. Each cross sits atop a polychrome staff wrapped with fringed leather for ease of carrying. Processional crosses would be fixed to a pole or staff and carried at religious ceremonies as a religious standard. This magnificent set of four processional crosses can be sold as a set for $7800 or individually for $1950 each. Dimensions: Height 85 inches Width 11 inches Staff is 1.5 inches diameter.
