Large Size French Wall Crucifix / Jesus Christ on the Cross with Crown of Thorns

About the Item

Antique large size sculpture and an impressive, religious work of art. Looking at Christ suffering like this, the crucifix (in our view) is a symbol of what 'telling people the truth' can lead to. 'The truth does not have many friends' is something I once read. Looking at what is going on in the world today, in most countries that still is the case. However, we feel that the human kind, nevertheless, is becoming more loving, civilized, empathetic and self-conscious. Mind you, this sizable wall crucifix dates from the late 19th century and the cruelties that people did to one another for acting or being different than 'normal' in those days and in most cases were far worse than what we see in this day and age. Looking at Christ on the cross with this in mind, we have come along way and we are slowly, but surely evolving in the right direction. Christ on the cross should therefor also be a reminder of someone who has foreseen all this and who should therefor always be a beacon of hope and light when things are not going our way, yet. We hope that this handcrafted and large crucifix with Crown of Thorns can also inspire the new owner to be the best he or she can be. Even if it means he or she will have to take a few steps back in order to move forward on the long run. Because of its size, this antique will also look impressive high on the wall of a public building, but also on one of the walls of a split level home. Mind you, our price for this antique includes perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Maximum height x width x depth: 54.5 x 34.5 x 7.5 inches. Corpus height from head to toe: 32.5 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for artistic and meaningful and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.

  • Early 1900 and Very Fine Quality Hand Carved Wall Crucifix / Jesus on the Cross

Sizeable crucifix with a finer quality carved corpus of Christ. Looking at Christ like this and thinking about the gruesome way in which He lost His earthly life, the crucifix (in our view) is a symbol of what 'telling people the truth' can lead to. 'The truth does not have many friends' is something I once read. Looking at what is going on in the world today, in most countries that still is the case. However, we feel that we (humans), nevertheless, are still becoming more loving, civilized, empathetic and self-conscious. Mind you, this good size wall crucifix dates from the early 1900s and the cruelties that people did to one another for acting or being different than 'normal' in those days, in most cases were far worse than what we see in this day and age. Looking at Christ on the cross with this in mind, we have come along way and we are slowly, but surely evolving in the right direction. Maybe it is just some of our 'leaders' who are lacking behind. Christ on the cross should therefor also be a reminder of someone who has lived and foreseen all this and who should therefor always be a beacon of hope and light when things are not going our way, yet. What attracted us most in this work of religious art are the quality details of His anatomy and the warm patina of this finely carved corpus. The facial features of this superb corpus of Christ reveal...

  • Pure Art Deco Crucifix w. Stylized Bronze Sculpture of Christ on Silkwood Cross
    Located in Lisse, NL
Marked altar crucifix with a brass base with Christogram and a bronze corpus with a Gothic crown. For us the most powerful statement will always be 'the truth will set you free'. It is what we have learned most from the life of Christ and of His teachings and it is the one thing we always think about whenever we look at a crucifix. Anyone who has tried to break down his/her ego and found a clearer consciousness in the process, knows how healing and rewarding that journey can be. After that you can only be grateful for all the good things that are bound to come your way. Good things will come your way, because the universe needs people like you. Both the beautifully designed wooden cross and the Art Deco bronze corpus of Christ have an amazing patina and together they make this meaningful antique a true work of beauty. The striking, geometrical Art Deco details of the corpus of Christ combined with the Gothic crown with the trefoil symbols (for the trinity), truly makes this a stunning and impressive work of religious art that will never cease to impress. This antique European altar...

Stylish and meaningful work of art. This Christian work of art dates from the 1920s. Over the centuries wall crucifixes have been made in all kinds of sizes and shapes, but the ones from the Art Deco Era seem to be the most distinctive in style. This 1920s wall crucifix is small in size, but the straight lined, geometrical cross, the stylised Gothic halo and the relatively straight lined body of Christ tell us that it was clearly from the European Art Deco era. In this case Belgian (it is marked Bruxelles just below the feet). Some Art Deco crucifixes...

  • Crucifix on Calvary, Called Plague of Christ, France, Early 18th Century
    Located in Milan, IT
Crucifix on Calvary, called 'Pestis Christi' or Crucifiix Pestis 'Plague of Christ' or Plague Crucifix). The sculpture is composite, made with heterogeneous materials: wax, wood, papier-mâché. The octagonal base is slightly raised and supports the calvary, symbolized by rocks, from which the crucifix rises, made with intentionally unfinished boards and with marked veins. The depicted Christ is peculiar: he shows scarified skin all over his body. Masterfully crafted in wax. They are the plagues of the plague that Christ, 'Agnus Dei' takes charge of with salvific value, for the salvation of the world. At his feet the ordeal full of symbols: evil (snake) with the apple, the 'Memento mori' of human bones...
