About the Item

Wooden barometer signed Burlinson Ripon made in the mid 19th century. Silver-plated brass dial engraved with weather indications and the name of the manufacturer. The reading of the barometer is indicated by a double pointer, the first one directly connected to the barometric tube indicates the trend of atmospheric pressure, the second one, operated by a knob placed under the dial, acts as a reading vernier for checking the variation of atmospheric pressure over time. Thermometer signed SATI made in the 1950s with a silver-plated brass temperature scale calibrated from -20 ° to + 50 ° degrees centigrade. The mechanism has been cleaned and overhauled. Height 103 cm, width 32 cm, depth / thickness 5 cm. Very good condition, fully functional. For safety during transport the barometer will be shipped emptied of mercury. The mercury will be placed in a sealed container in the package together with the barometer. Man, as farmer or navigator, has always observed and tried to forecast the changes of weather. Scientific studies about these changes began in the middle ofXVII century, following experiments about the existence of empty, that antique philosophers denied because “nature hates empty!”.
