19th Century Mahogany Barometer F Somalvico Antique Weather Measuring Instrument
About the Item
Barometer complete with clock signed F. Somalvico N ° 11 Brook Str. Holborn London datable between 1810 and 1820. Finely crafted mahogany wood case with cedar wood edges. Large silver-plated brass dial engraved with meteorological indications and double pointer, the first one directly connected to the barometric tube indicates the atmospheric pressure trend, the second one, operated by a knob placed under the large meteorological dial, acts as a reading vernier to check the variation of atmospheric pressure over time. Watch with 7-day charge overhauled and in perfect working order with hours dial expressed in Roman numerals in white enamelled metal and black numbers and blued steel hands. Thermometer with silver-plated brass temperature scale calibrated from 0 ° to 120 ° Fahrenheit. Spirit level embedded in the base of the barometer for the correct positioning of the instrument on the wall, with the name of the manufacturer.
In very good condition, barometer and watch overhauled and in perfect working order.
For safety during transport the barometer will be shipped emptied of mercury. The mercury will be placed in a sealed container in the package together with the barometer.

Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), mathematician and physicist, Galileo’s disciple, was the fist one in 1643 to make an instrument for measure changes of air pressure.
