Nine 19th Century Treen Ware Boxwood Medical Oil Ointment Lotion Bottle Holders

$2,950per set

About

Very decorative medical curiosity cabinet set of nine 19th century Victorian English and German treen turned boxwood bottle holders. These containers were used for protecting delicate items such as glass apothecary bottles, perfume bottles, syringes, powder, ointment bottles, thermometers and other medical or vanity items. In three of the containers are glass bottles: One large one holds a very nice empty bottle with cork and metal stopper with little holes in it on which it reads 'Georg Dralle Hamburg". In the almost 140 years of company history, it achieved world fame. Ultimately, it was sold to the French company L’Oréal in 1991. A middle size holder holds a glass bottle with scented oil A smaller narrow holder holds aa empty long and small bottle The flat round holder probably held a ceramic toothpaste box. On top the mark says: S. Maw Son & Thompson London Trademark. In 1814 George Maw purchased a factory at Whitecross Street in London. They soon began to manufacture surgical instruments and later expanded to produce a variety of medical and pharmaceutical products. In the 60 years that followed a son, a brother and a grandson joined. John Thompson became a partner in the business in circa 1875 and the firm was restyled S. Maw, Son & Thompson.
