A Recording dial clock by the International Time Recording Company, Endicott, New York. In the original oak case and (the first we have ever seen) original table stand. The dial measures 30" diameter. Hight on the table is 71". When plugged in the interior light comes on and the clock motor hums.
Note: From the American History Museum website: "at the end of the 1800s, early 1900s the industrial revolution was taking place and large numbers of people were taking jobs in the cities. Being punctual was the expected behavior as "time is money" attitude prevailed. Also, recording and scrutinizing expenses for labor, materials and overhead were getting more attention than ever before. By the early twentieth century the International Time Recording Company supplied an entire line of timekeeping devices, including master clocks, several types of time clocks, and time stamps. Founded in 1900, the firm continuously expanded its product line, underwent several reorganizations and name changes, and emerged in 1924 as the International Business Machine Corporation, familiar today as IBM. The reverse penny-farthing was a revolutionary design and considered one of the first safety bicycles. The Smithsonian has an example on display. The Star, a uniquely American solution for the dreaded “header,” was introduced in 1880. Its success came by moving the small wheel to the front. Because it could not use direct drive due to the reversed rider position, the bike relied on levers and leather straps to drive the rear wheel. The levers drove the driver wheel with an up and down motion from the rider’s legs. Both levers could be depressed simultaneously for a burst of speed or could be “galloped” along like a horse. An exceptionally rare timepiece from a bygone age of industry, this automaton clock takes the form of a locomotive. The eight-day movement strikes on a gong and tells the time on a white porcelain chapter ring dial. An aneroid barometer and stick thermometer are also integrated into the complex design, lending it functionality beyond a simple time teller. It also features a separate mechanism that causes the wheels to spin when wound, bringing life to this Industrial wonder.
Though it is undeniably an impressive piece of clockmaking, it is also a remarkable work of art. Crafted of silvered and gilt bronze, this train displays an impressive degree of historical accuracy. A cow catcher is mounted at the front, while the smokebox, safety valves, cylinders and ladders are all included. It is truly a wonderful example of the Industrial series of clocks popular in French horology during the late 19th century.
