19th Century Horse Racing Jockey Tintype Photograph

About the Item

19th century horse racing Jockey Tintype photograph. Six plate tinted tintype of Canadian Jockey Ben Alcott, winner of the 1861 Canadian "Queen's Plate" Horse Race. The Queens Plate race was founded by Queen Victoria in 1859 . Mr. Alcott is standing in the winners circle horseshoe wearing his Spanish inspired riding togs and his winners fedora rests on top of the shoe . The horseshoe has some vines around the arc that have a green tint to them. His elaborate jacket and hat have orange tint as well. The plate is perfect, with no bends or marks of any kind case elements are excellent as is the full leatherette case and velvet pad. Truly wonderful in every way. Exceptionally rare. Image was collected in Etobicoke in the 1960s, any information regarding identity etc was documented in a ledger that is not available. That information was documented on the back of the image when it was archival resealed. The item was purchased by us from the granddaughter who now resides in California.
