Cecil Aldin, Old Inns, The Star Inn. A very nice colourful framed chromolithograph by Cecil Aldin of The Star Inn, Alfriston, Sussex. The print is printed and published by Eyre & Spottiswoode, Ltd., 4 Middle New Street, London, E.C.4. and signed in pencil by the artist in the bottom left-hand margin with Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp. The Star Inn appeared in Aldin's book 'Old Inns' published in 1921 by Heinemann and was one of Aldin's most popular series, it was followed by Old Manor Houses (1923) and Cathedrals and Abbey Churches of England (1924). John Jabez Edwin Paisley Mayall (1813-1901) was an English photographer who in 1860 took the first carte-de-visite photographs of Queen Victoria. Taken from Royal North Devon:- Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! Can rightly claim to be the cradle of English Golf. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest golf course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of the South.
