Rare Cabin Decor Antler Humidor, circa 1890-1900 An antique turned wooden box with lid, venered with several fine antler slices from the deer and decorated with tips of roe deer antlers. (woodcrack at the lid - see pictures). On top of the lid with hollow turned antler box for matches. Executed ca. 1890/1900. Measures: Height 11.81" (30.0cm) Diameter 7.87" (20.0cm) At the beginning of the 19th century the European nobility discovered antler furnishings for their hunting castles and countryseats. The furniture was either manufactured completely from e.g. stag antler, or it was decorated with antler pieces from the stag, deer, fallow deer and others to get a hunting desing. A famous example was the interior design of 'Jagdschloss Platte' (hunting castle Platte) of count William of Nassau near Wiesbaden, Germany in 1825. artfour is an owner-managed trading company dealing in Black Forest woodcarvings, antler furniture and an impressive variety of unique decorative items.
