About the Item

A rare and sculpturally refined pair of Art Deco bronze bookends, known as “Sit and Push,” created by Paul Silvestre circa 1920. The composition depicts a boy and girl satyr, dynamically posed and rich in movement, reflecting early Art Deco experimentation with mythological themes. These bookends are a reduced sculptural version of the famous “Miroir d’eau” fountains in Paris and Lucerne, linking them directly to monumental public Art Deco sculpture. Cast in bronze with a deep brown patina, both pieces are signed Silvestre and bear the foundry marks of Susse Frères, Paris, one of the most prestigious French art foundries of the early 20th century. Documented in Bronzes, sculptors and founders by H. Berman, Abage. Picture numbers 789 en 790. With certificate of authenticity.
