19th Century French Handmade Gilt Wood Five Panel Silk Folding Dressing Screen

About the Item

Remarkable five panel folding dressing screen made of giltwood hand carved frame covered with fine beige silk hand embroidered with colorful flowers. Amazing piece in very good condition except the last panel at right which silk part is quite distressed, but still beautiful. France, circa 1890.

    Highly imposing mid-19th Century French three-fold modesty screen or room divider. Each panel is enclosed in molded gilt frames with short scrolled legs and ornately carved scrolled crests. Upholstered on one side with pink 'Regency stripe' fabric and with plain silk on the reverse. Each with shaped glass tops which all have beveled edges. Folds completely flat when not in use. (Sometimes referred to as Dressing Screens or Draft Screens).
