Mahogany Screen By Madeleine Castaing

About the Item

Rare neoclassical style mahogany screen by Madeleine Castaing. It opens with three articulated shutters: Measures: The central : height 162.3 cm width 68.2 cm The side : height 149.5cm width 48.5cm The central part is adorned with photo doors that can be filled by opening the panel from the back in order to slide photos into the places reserved for this. The side parts allow you to slip in a fabric or other decoration. Madeleine Castaing is inspired by neoclassical aesthetics, not without interpreting it in her own way. Contemporary of the Italian Mario Praz who moved away from the usual canons of interior decoration and turned towards the beginning of the 19th century, rival of Emilio Terry who invented the "Louis XVII style", she is part of the same movement of renewal compared to the omnipresence of Louis XV-Louis XVI, while distinguishing itself by its mixture of genres. Réf : Emily Evans Eerdmans; The World of Madeleine Castaing (prefaces by Jacques Grange and Frédéric Castaing), Rizzoli, 2010; Madeleine Castaing, Editions du Regard, 2010.
