French 19th Century Steamer Trunk

About the Item

A fantastic 19th century French traveling trunk, constructed of pine and steel, dressed in light peach colored illustrations on paper. Graphic, geometric patterns and stylized cartouche animate the exterior, the gridded layout underscored by the steel and wood frame that would have protected one’s personal effects while traveling by steamship or by train. Stickers from cities around France are still adhered to the sides, some still perfectly legible. Remains of leather handles are also evident but not intact. Opening the lid reveals a paper-lined interior with a dainty blue and white theme. Patina consistent with age and use, please view the detailed images of this unique 1800s steamer trunk.
