Uncino è il capitano immaginario di una nave di pirati crudeli.
Viene chimato così perché al posto della mano destra ha un uncino di ferro, la mano gli fu mozzata da Peter Pan durante un combattimento e poi data in pasto ad un coccodrillo, il quale gradì così tanto la mano che spera di mangiarsi anche il pirata al quale continua a dare la caccia.
L’opera, in legno di castagno scolpito è stata realizzata da un bravo scultore ligure, Italia del Nord, alla fine del XIX secolo, di ottima fattura ritrare il mezzo busto di un uomo barbuto, l’occhio destro bendato e l’uncino al posto della mano destra, mentre la mano sinistra impugna una grande spada e una bandana come copriacapo.
Il castagno è un legno pregiato e molto resistente alle intemperie e al vento.
La spada spezzata è stata restaurata in epoca precedente, per il resto lo stato di conservazione è molto buono.
Una polena è una decorazione lignea, che si trovava sulla prua delle navi dal XVI al XIX secolo.
La pratica fu introdotta inizialmente nei galeoni, ma anche navi più antiche avevano spesso alcune decorazioni nella prua.

Designed by Pauline Deltour to be significant in size, the object has distinct concave faces to bring out a sculptural presence. Adão coat peg is available in two sizes, and finished with a natural wax coating.

The unique thing about them is they stock a very large variety of Portuguese and imported hardwoods, and combine the best of hand and machine processes to make high quality products, in small to medium sized production runs.
The Designer
Pauline Deltour was born in 1983, in Landerneau, France. She graduated from les Arts Décoratifs in 2007 and has worked for 4 years for Konstantin Grcic in Munich, Germany. She has opened her very own studio in Paris in 2010. Distinguished by being both severe and delicate, its designs reflect a vocabulary which is characteristic of her own personality. Her precise hand, neat lines, carefully selected materials and colour ranges, and the way in which they come together, form the individual identity of this young French designer’s work. Hand-crafted in France in the 18th century, with later 19th century elements, likely originating in the south of France / Mediterranean region, featuring pegged solid wooden construction of warm, rich fruitwood, chesnut, oak, and maple.
Having a slant-front bureau with tall raised back decorated with three Renaissance Revival style high relief panels, the center depicting religious scene comprising Jesus and winged Saint, the side panels with foliate floral fruit pendant carvings, flanked by classical turned baluster-form columns, surmounted with highly stylized hand carved and turned finials. Over a slant-front with star parquetry, the hinged drop-front opens to reveal a distressed leather writing desk / lectern / pulpit on which the holy books can be laid open and allows to shelter the books, which were considered precious goods at that time. The lower sacristy cabinet has a pair of slide-out supports flanking a paneled cupboard door decorated with a large stepped base Christian cross parquetry inlay, affixed with later decorative forged iron faux escutcheon overtop.
