About the Item

A rare grand fortepiano made by Anton Pfeiffer from Glogau, Silesia, today Poland, circa 1835. 220 cm long with 85 keys. This rare period grand piano has been newly and completely restored. The Biedermeier case has a high glossy hand made French polish. The wood is probably a fruitwood like plumwood, nutwood, or rosewood. The hammers are leather-covered, giving a sound and touch perfect for the period performance of Baroque, classical and romantic composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin. The design of the acoustic and the mechanics is very similar to Pleyel, and by changing the hammers the sound will come out completely like a period Pleyel. All worn parts of the mechanics and the felts have been renewed by a German master technician. The piano has been restrung, the base section has been restrung from a bichord to a single chord base using special pure sound period strings. This is a historic grand piano in fully rebuilt condition. It is a museum piece, a beautiful antique piece, and ready to practice, perform and record period piano music. This period grand has parallel strings, is currently tuned 415 Hz, but can be tuned higher. It has a renewed pin block and keeps the tuning very well. You have a 5 years warranty on the instrument. Most people believe the Pfeiffer dynasty to have started around the 1860s but after investigation, we find that Joseph Anton Pfeiffer, who was the father of Carl A Pfeiffer actually started building his own pianos much before. We have found proof of an early square and a grand that are both located in Museums, one in Poland and one in Germany. So the above maker 'Pfeiffer' is probably the father of the founders of the Pfeiffer piano dynasty from Stuttgart Germany.
