About the Item
ART DECO HAMMERED & PATINATED IRON, MARBLE AND CAST GLASS LIGHTED HALL TREE
Verrerie d'Art Degué, Paris, circa 1930 cast signature to reverse of glass "Degué, Frace" & numbered 716; stenciled to the reverse "5687"
Item # 202MHK13P
A very finely made hall tree reminiscent of Edgar Brandt, it is executed in beautifully hammered and wrought iron finished in a pigmented lacquer patina throughout. It is designed to hold five jackets along the top, umbrellas in the bucket to the right and walking sticks in the left. A beveled looking-glass is situated just beneath the cast-glass frosted lighting element; this is operated with a switch tucked away on the right side of tree. A small rectangular marble insert allows space for keys and wallets while putting on a coat. Furls of foliage wrap around the structure and culminate in well-developed flowers that are entirely executed in welded iron. The reverse of the glass is signed in the casting "Degué, Frace" for the renowned lighting maker Verrerie d'Art Degué and is numbered 716.
Measurements: 75 1/8" H x 8 1/8" D x 27 3/8" W
Condition Report:
Some surface wear to the pigmented lacquer and underlying patina; trace rust, paint loss and tarnish the left liner and umbrella bucket; minor chipping and abrading to the edges of the glass insert; some abrading to the edges and corners of the marble; electric working beautifully but should be examined by a professional electrician for safety.
