Large 19th Century, Renaissance Revival Wall Coat Rack with Mask Sculptures
About the Item
Antique and sculptural, Dutch oak wall coat rack.
This beautiful antique coat rack, according to us, depicts the new generation (or 'patriarchs') of a well to do family. The two male figures in this stylish antique probably represent two brothers and the third (the female mask figure) is either the sister or the wife of one of the two males. They are certainly from a higher class family, because a piece of this size and of this quality workmanship, back in the 1800s could only be afforded by people with higher status in Dutch society. These people would often live in mansions and large farm houses where a coat rack like this would also be considered a status symbol. This really is a great antique to come home and with two strong metal hooks on the back it can easily and safely be mounted on your wall in just a few minutes. Especially the finely carved male and female mask sculptures with their characteristic Renaissance look and feel make this coat rack a real work of art in your entry hall. With the stunning and also hand-carved scrolling patterns inside the solid oak back panels, this antique can only be the work of a master carver. Over the many decades the patina too has become second to none. The wooden, turned hooks are all original and in excellent condition as well and apart from a few minor imperfections this antique could hardly be in better condition.
If you like the quality, the condition and the historical context of this antique coat rack as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing (in a custom made box) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary.
