Mid-19th Century walnut Treen Bobbin Stand Finely Hand Turned, circa 1850
About the Item
This is a fine mid-19th century English "treen" hand turned bobbin or egg cup stand or display stand made from solid hardwood in the mid-19th century, circa 1850
This piece has been beautifully handmade and turned with fine detail, from solid hardwood, possibly red walnut.
It has a circular turned base standing on three small tulip feet and with five small spigot uprights set into the base as locators for egg cups. The central stem handle is beautifully hand ring turned, demonstrating the great ability of the master craftsman wood turner.
This is quite a rare find and it has developed a lovely natural color and patina.
Though originally made as an egg cup stand for which it could still be used, it has many other potential uses as a stand for cotton bobbins, or other small collectable choice pieces such as Snuff Bottles, perfume bottles, small boxes, thimbles or any other small pieces, or even as a Jewellery stand on the dressing table. Please see the images for examples of items that could be displayed on this stand.

- Mid Victorian Side Chair Finely Hand Carved with Wool Work Seat, Circa 1850Located in Lincoln, LincolnshireThis is a very good quality example of an English occasional side chair in the Rococo style, from the mid Victorian period, circa 1850, made from Beech. The back is a Classic balloon back shape, but with intricate cut-out and carved detail to the frame and particularly to the cross splat. This carved detail is continued on the front legs and front stretcher. The foot of the legs are splayed slightly outwards which adds to the features of this chair. Twin side stretchers give additional strength to this chair but overall this is a delicately made chair. It has a good wool-work covered seat with a rose spray design. Please note: This chair is not a strong dining room chair and is not recommended for regular use as a chair to sit on. The chair is light and would make a very pretty bedroom or hall side chair, to be used principally for display either on its own or with say teddy bears displayed on it, or for draping light...Category
