About the Item
An important piece of American fashion history and a significant example of American Art Deco sculpture, this unique piece was awarded to Priscilla McCaffrey of Henri Bendel for her fashion design at the Designers Annual Fashion Fair in 1947. For the award's design, the Fair organizers turned to Oronzio Maldarelli, one of America's most important sculptors during the 1920s, 30s and 40s, and here Maldarelli depicts a lovely female nude draping herself very simply, symbolizing the art and function of fashion. There is little evidence that the Fair was repeated again, so this award may be the only one in existence. The sculpture retains its original limed oak base, its brass tag, and is signed.
