1960's Phil Longboard, Surfboard to the Stars
Phil Surfboards Downey CA
This is a magnificent longboard. An early 1960's semi gun, pointed at the front and narrower at the back for riding larger waves, it has a 3/4 inch redwood stringer flanked by creamy-white, and on the edges, bright tangerine orange rails. It has a "glassed-in" D-shaped fin original to the board. There are two crsip Phil logos, one on the center of deck the other underneath the nose, which makes it the perfect board to view from all angles.
In 1961 Phil Sauers opened Inland Surf Shop on the corner of Firestone and Lakewood Blvd in Downey CA. His surfboard and clothing designs, captured the color and style of an era and were featured in some of the largest surf films of the era including "Ride the Wild Surf", "Muscle Beach Party" & "Bikini Beach Party".
One could say that Phil Sauers put his personal stamp on 1960's Surf Culture, and the world, via the silver screen. "Surfboards by Phil" became known as Surfboards To The Stars as he made countless boards for Hollywood celebrities who embraced the new sport and the culture of California surfing.
This eye-catcher of a board has been fully restored and is ready for display in home, bar, retail shop, office or restaurant.
