Andrianna Shamaris Super Rare Cotton Ikat from Sumba Indonesia

$1,400

About

Stunning colors in this hand-woven textile from the island of Sumba, eastern Indonesia. The stripes seem modern yet mixed with the traditional center panel work so well together. Ikat is an ancient technique which is used to add patterns to textiles. The designs are created in the yarns rather than on the finished cloth, resulting in both sides patterned with bold contrasting colors. Multiple colors and complicated patterns are difficult to create. This beautiful, rare textile can be worn as a shawl, draped over a sofa or used as a wall hanging. This ikat was sourced in the spirit of wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility. This kind of luxury is for a select few: The Emperor of Japan had a wabi garden. Wabi is for people who already have a lot. Andrianna Shamaris. The Leader In Modern Organic Design.
