Maharam pillow Vases by Hella Jongerius 001 Berry A testament to her enduring fascination with colors and materials, Vases by Hella Jongerius transfigures her iconic Red White Vase of 1997 as a densely placed motif. Fusing ancient craft techniques with modern industrial technology, the Red White Vase is a mass-produced product that looks more like a handmade one-off. It served as a neutral, three-dimensional canvas in a series of color experiments that Jongerius conducted in 2003, 2007, and 2010, when she arranged over 300 multicolored vases into concentric circles as part of an investigation into optically merging colors. Vases employs a variety of textural weave structures - including a plain, satin, rib, and twill weave - to mimic the overlapping blocks of translucent color that Jongerius had previously achieved in ceramic glaze. Founded in 1902, Maharam offers a comprehensive collection of textiles for commercial and residential interiors. Maharam pillows feature celebrated textile designs from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, from re-editions of the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and Verner Panton to recent collaborations with Hella Jongerius, Paul Smith, Scholten & Baijings, and Studio Job. Hella Jongerius (b. 1963, the Netherlands) is an industrial designer working from her Berlin-based studio, Jongeriuslab. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven (the Netherlands) in 1993, Jongerius has fused industry to craft, high technology to low, and tradition to the contemporary by reintroducing an artisanal hand to the industrial process throughout her work with furniture, ceramics, and textiles. The Dutch design collective Droog produced much of her early work, while later she developed in-depth relationships with companies such as Vitra, IKEA, Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory, and the Japanese design firm Cibone. 62% cotton, 38% post-industrial recycled nylon.
