First issued in 1964 the ‘Cosmos’ print has been re-issued several times. Here it is in a harmonious colour way of varying shades of blue crowned with illustrations in lavish antique gold. The mythological design depicts Phoebus, also known as Apollo, the god of sun and light, gallantly riding his chariot across the sky, making the sun rise and set across the universe. In all four corners of this print, he is seen charging from the heavens, from two different angles of perspective, with his chariot and horses galloping on a seemingly weightless cloud upon elegant scrolling golden leaves. The busy picture features ornamental details and architectural Renaissance motifs, spiralling and curling, connected by intricate and interlacing decorative ribbons and topped with striking stars. We both celebrate and cherish the past and take care with rare and precious vintage and antique materials. (this cushion frame can also be reversed back into a scarf and presented in a frame on request) Note on condition: This particular scarf displays slight markings, these are tiny, faint and barely noticeable. They are small, almost like dirty marks but the piece is fully laundered, likely very small colour transfers, perhaps during ironing in its previous life. They are small and just about visible in the photographs. We rarely create scarf cushions from non perfect specimens but in this instance the item is extremely beautiful. This is mentioned for clarity. We feel they do not take away from the item’s charm and beauty. This can be expected in vintage, formerly used / pre-loved textiles, there is no structural damage (no rips, plucks, holes, tears, snags, frays), or restoration. It is a very special colour way that we don’t come across often.
