Title: Vintage Hermes French Signature Orange Silk Scarf and Irish Linen Cushion Pillow Description: The ‘crème de la crème’ of scarves, this beauty is a one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from an exquisite vintage silk Hermes fashion scarf. The French company began in 1837 producing superior quality leather goods, harnesses and saddles, which makes sense that 100 years later the main theme on their luxury scarves is equestrian. Hermes scarves, known as ‘carre’ (squares), have become a symbol of French chic and are a highly desirable object across the globe that still continues to delight. Favoured by the ‘jet-setters’ of the 50s and 60s and gaining iconic status by Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and this particular elegant design even worn by Queen Elizabeth II. In a very striking orange hue signature of the iconic brand. Framed by a dramatic boarder that pops, along with the brand’s signature, ’Hermes’ in the bottom left hand corner. The fabric was personally hand-picked by Katie at antiques market ‘Marche aux Puces Saint-Ouen’ on the outskirts of Paris. On a sumptuous thick silk soft to the touch, twill silk with a beautiful texture. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo cloth, filled with new custom-made plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful melange effect. Would be a superb statement piece to one’s interior. Would look divine on a velvet or rattan sofa or paired with a Hermes throw (blanket). Vintage designer Jacques Heim silk scarf Irish linen Christmas stocking blue turquoise gold Katie Larmour linen is known for her use of luxury salvaged materials, with this collection, each one-of-a-kind Christmas stockings has beeb uniquely created from a combination of vintage (although unused) 100% pure Irish Linen and finished with a fragment of precious and rare designer silk scarf, from some of the world’s leading brands, for the trim. In doing so these exquisite designer silk scarfs have been reclaimed, recycled and preserved as they are pieces taken from spoiled garments Katie has picked up at antiques markets over the years whilst sourcing antique objects. The scarves in their entirety had flaws such as pulls, plucks, holes, rips, tears, stains and even cigaret burns. Katie has carefully selected portions from these scarves that are in perfect condition to use for these stockings. The scarves would otherwise be deemed as unusable, perhaps even undesirable and without a doubt unbearable as scarf, wonderfully contributing to a world where sustainability has an important place. Her love of creating cushions (pillows) in this similar way, also found here on 1stdibs, has also provided off cuts from superb former ‘carres’. These special pieces with character, personally and a pop of colour can be celebrated for their striking patterns, colours and historical designers. The undyed oatmeal colour of the linen is the natural shade of the flax plant itself and a signature of Katie Larmour Linen. This heritage textile was once a world leader and it is to this tradition that we are keeping it alive. The stockings are generous in size, artisan made from a studio in Belfast, home of the Irish Linen industry, constructed with organic lining inside, thread and a luxurious layer of bamboo wadding beneath the silk for softness and structure. Katie Larmour Design is an associate member of the Irish Linen Guild and featured by them as a trusted purveyor of Irish Linen Goods, and her original ideas and work have been written about in the Financial Times ‘How to Spend It’ magazine.
