Framed Antique Woven Anatolian Woven Textile

About the Item

A professionally framed antique hand-woven Turkish textile from Anatolia circa late 19th century. The panel was likely a storage bag face. It features a striking joined panels that showcase respective geometrical motifs. One side shows S hook symbols among the double zigzag pattern. The S hook is called Cengel and it is an Anatolian symbol used to ward off evil. The other side showcases a more elaborate diamond patterns with Bereket symbols in the center. The multiple-hooked form is a fertility symbol. The panels with joined in the center with a braided chain ribbon, which is also reserved partially on the edge. The textile measures 39 by 34.5 and it was nicely presented in a linen-backed wood frame which measures 43.5 x 46.5 in.
