About the Item

This four-piece medical team of solid-cast zinc alloy toy soldiers is Set #2, "Wheeled Litter," by DJ's Originals of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The set includes two medical attendants, one wounded man on a stretcher and one wheeled litter. They are hand-painted models made from original casts created by Don and Jean Porter. The pieces are signed and dated on the bases: "DJ's Originals c '78." The set is in the standard Wm. Britains Ltd. toy soldier size of 55 mm. The Porters established their business in 1978 to feature American doughboys from World War I, a niche they thought was neglected in the field of collectible toy soldiers. They made their toys into the 1990s, and their figures have become collectors' items because of the artistic sculpting and detailed painting and because of their range of unusual and animated poses. The figures come untied and unmounted with their original box which has a blank cover label (as it came from the maker) and with a hand-written side label with the set number, title and name of maker. This set looks great as a vignette on an desk or bookcase or in a reception area. It is also the perfect gift for the toy soldier collector, medical or military personnel, or anyone with a love of history and service and with fond memories of childhood playtime.
