Antique Italian Giltwood Trumeau Mirror with Harbor Scene Oil Painting, C. 1780
Located in Dallas, TX
This Italian trumeau mirror, hand-carved circa 1780, features a 20 ½” H x 38” W mirror set beneath a maritime oil painting. The giltwood frame has angular protrusions in the upper corner, each filled with a small, raised floret. An egg-and-dart border graces the edges of the frame, interrupted by stepped-out plinths at the bottom corners. Both the mirror pane and the painting are surrounded by bead and reel motifs.
The wonderfully executed painting depicts a bustling harbor filled with vessels from three different countries. A majority of the crafts feature English flags, while there is one from the Netherlands, with the third representation being a flag from the nation of Catalonia, which would later become an autonomous state in Spain. The blue sky, filled with white fluffy clouds, provides good weather for the numerous boats and ships navigating the choppy waters. Very mountainous terrain can be seen in the background, with a white lighthouse and a blue roof on the shore. In front of the highlands is tall Romanesque architecture comprised of several niches, transoms, and bricked columns topped with flowing greenery. Several men are gathered on the shore, carrying cargo to be loaded into boats approaching the harbor. Our Italian trumeau mirror with harbor scene oil painting...

19th Century Italian Alabaster Carved Head Of A Bishop Saint
Located in Stamford, CT
19th century Italian carved alabaster head of a saint wearing a bishop's mitre in the Gothic style. Though a fragment, the intense gaze of this small carving gives it a lot of presence. Mounted on an ebonized walnut base.

Carlo Marcellini 'Florence 1644 – 1713', Florentine Baroque Putto
Located in Bruxelles, BE
Carlo Marcellini (Florence 1644 – 1713)
Putto
White and green marble
41.5 x 73.5 cm
This marble putto carved in high relief, almost a tutto tondo, and set on an elegant green marble background, appears almost naked, sitting on a cloud. His peculiar pose, in adoration, suggests that the work was a part of a larger composition including other figures in devotion.
Published in 2007 by Sandro Bellesi in the monograph dedicated to Gioacchino Fortini (pg.155), this beautiful marble putto was included in the catalog of Carlo Marcellini, a prominent figure in the baroque renewal of Florentine art.
Born in Florence in 1644, Carlo Marcellini received his artistic education in the city of the lily, specializing in stone sculpture and stucco modeling under the guidance of Bartolomeo Cennini before continuing his studies in Rome in the Accademia Medicea founded by the Grand Duke Cosimo III in order to familiarize some more promising artists with the essential “ taste of Rome ”.
Under the guidance of Ercole Ferrata and Ciro Ferri, Giovan Battista Foggini...
