Stroke by Sabine Marcelis The Stroke collection was really about creating a singular gesture as a rug. A simple brush stroke which highlights the extraordinary craftsmanship of woven rugs. The varied pile height and subtle color differences accentuate the 3 dimensionalities of these rugs. A drawing, ‘stroke’ on the floor ‘Rooms become a canvas’ The total interior is the artwork. The stroke is the start of it, complemented by and complimenting the rest of the furniture to complete the artwork. The stroke symbolizes a start, to build upon. Simple, yet strong gestures as inspiration: The pure act of whiting out windows by brushing on white paint. The strong singular gesture of a Roy Lichtenstein painting one act which really brings out the materiality and showcases the beauty of the production process. Subtle differences in color provide the effect, color is used as a design tool, not ornamentally drawing on the floor Versatility It demands its own attention but can coexist and complement other furniture in a space. It's not too loud, but it is powerful. I thought of my own interior and what kind of a rug I would place in it. There is already so many diverse furniture pieces, the rug would need to pull it all together and not create chaos out of the total. Measures: 8.2' x 7.9'

Sabine Marcelis
Dutch-Kiwi designer Sabine Marcelis’s work is at the forefront of contemporary material innovation in product and installation design. She works with glass manufacturers and more, forging partnerships across her industry to bring her ambitiously experimental projects to fruition.
Marcelis’s focus is on allowing happenstance sensory experiences to emerge by juxtaposing combinations of unlikely materials and colors. She was educated at the Design Academy Eindhoven and since founding her eponymous studio in 2011 in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, she has built a remarkable roster of clients in fashion, architecture and art. She has created signature pieces for the likes of Rem Koolhaas’s architecture firm OMA, high-fashion labels Fendi and Isabel Marant and luxury beauty brand Aēsop. She has also exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and won Wallpaper* magazine’s Designer of the Year award for 2020.
Marcelis was invited to create a sculptural intervention for the interiors of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich’s iconic Barcelona Pavilion, which saw the debut of the pair’s timeless Barcelona chair in 1929. For her “No Fear of Glass” exhibition, the designer subverted the original request made to van der Rohe to “not use too much glass” by designing chaise longues, pillar lights and a fountain that feature glass as the main material. The rest of her work is informed by a similarly sophisticated playfulness, as evident in the charming forms she creates — she has designed doughnut-shaped rugs, the multifunctional resin Candy Cube side tables and colorful asymmetrical glass mirrors.
Marcelis has the rare ability to create dynamic and fluid experiences by pushing the limits of craftsmanship. While her enchanting seating, lighting and other furnishings may appear effortless due to their fluid and simple forms, they are the result of relentless attention to detail and venturesome experiments with materiality.

cc-tapis is an Italian company which produces contemporary hand-knotted rugs which are created in Nepal by expert Tibetan artisans.
The company was founded by Nelcya Chamszadeh and Fabrizio Cantoni in France who have been producing hand-knotted rugs in Nepal for over 18 years. In 2011 cc-tapis moved to Milan where the company is now based and a team of designers lead by Daniele Lora, art-director and partner, innovate through a new approach to traditional methods. A strong respect for the materials and for the culture of this ancient craft is reflected in the company’s eco-friendly approach to every step of production, ranging from the hand spinning of the softest Himalayan wool to the use of purified rainwater for the washing of the final products, making each one of cc-tapis rugs unique.
Far from mass production, cc-tapis aims to offer a tailored service to those who understand and enjoy a high-end product, where a three month production time contains a story of ageless culture.
