Contemporary Design Rug, Animal Mask

Buyer Protection Guaranteed

This limited edition rug is a contemporary design by textile designer Christoph Hefti, who is known for his fabrics for Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga, Lanvin and Acne Studios. Christoph Hefti’s love for crafted textiles has taken him to Nepal, where he designs and develops his own series of hand-knotted rugs. During his visits to Nepal, Christoph rediscovered the direct interaction between the designer and the craftsman and became fascinated by the use of traditional crafts in a contemporary context. He approaches the mystical and even spiritual tradition of storytelling textiles through his very personal yet worldly themes. This dramatic and confrontational Animal Mask, bursting with an energy rendered through Hefti’s graphic expression and emphasized by the frenzy of differently textured collaged fragments that give the mask its form.

The work of Christoph Hefti is part of the collection of the Swiss National Museum, the Design Museum Zürich (Schaudepot) and private collections in Switzerland, the Netherlands and the US.

Animal Mask is hand-knotted in Nepal, a limited edition of three pieces, each numbered and signed. 1 piece is already available in the gallery.

About the Maker

MANIERA commissions architects and artists to develop limited edition furniture series. As architects often have a close relationship with the visual arts and artists are often inspired by the spatial environment, MANIERA intends to crystalize these proximities into new design proposals. More than just furniture, the objects issued by MANIERA are a deliberate search for collisions between the realms of architecture, design and art. Above all, MANIERA wants to bring a young, up-and-coming generation to the fore, but also to show established and renowned figures in a new way. The most important elements in this are a personal language and writing, a conceptual mode of thought, and an authentic and idiosyncratic way of working. MANIERA was founded in 2014 by Amaryllis Jacobs and Kwinten Lavigne, who have both had long careers in major Brussels art institutions. MANIERA’s first exhibitions took place in domestic settings in Brussels. In April 2016 the couple opened a gallery in ‘Le Sablon’, the Brussels neighbourhood specialising in art and vintage design. Every now and then, MANIERA will continue to exhibit in interesting residential buildings when it is relevant to the project.
