Kilim Tapestry or Rug, Handmade Brooklyn, NY, USA

About

Inspired by the physics of light. The shifting tones and negative space echo the spectrum of light emitted from an object as it moves away from us in space. The asymmetrical design is meant to reinforce our contemporary use of space: ever changing, always moving, informal. Constructed with traditional Kilim techniques and tightly spun rug yarn. Each color included in this rug was hand-dyed by the artist to achieve the subtle variety in tones. Handwoven by the artist in his Brooklyn, NY studio. This rug may include minor imperfections representing the true nature of the natural materials and handcrafted techniques. The back of the rug has been finished so the piece may be reversed. Both ends finished with hem stitch and 3" fringe. May be hung as a tapestry or laid on the floor as a rug. Note: the appearance of color may vary slightly depending on your interior lighting. Measures: 37.5" x 69.25" + 3" fringe on both ends 100% New Zealand wool yarn on cotton warp.

About The Maker

Andrew Boos

Andrew Boos

View Profile
Andrew Boos is an artist and bespoke rug designer based in Brooklyn, NY. His work is inspired by the physics of light and space, exploring those interactions through the use of line, shape and color. He hand dyes his yarn to achieve subtle variations in tone. This allows for a much freer use of color, more akin to paintings than traditional textiles. The designs are composed on the loom and handwoven by the artist using traditional kilim and tapestry techniques. Starting from a central theme involving the interaction of shape and color, elements are added or subtracted as the piece progresses, allowing for spontaneity and freedom throughout the weaving process. Each piece is one of a kind.
