Caucasian Seichour Kuba rug
About the Item
Kuba rugs designated as Seichor, are known for their distinctive vibrant palette, with prominent medium blues, scarlet reds and accents in pink and gold. Stylistically, these pieces often reflect the European and particularly French taste of the late nineteenth century and this can be seen in the almost Rococo articulation of the lattice and palmettes drawn in this rug. This piece, however, is well grounded within the weaving traditions of the Caucasus. Ultimately, it is a small, highly stylized rendition of the classical Caucasian “Dragon Carpets” of the 17th century.
