Early 20th Century White Blu Green Wool Caucasion Ghendje Runner Rug, circa 1920

About the Item

Early 20th century, Central Caucasus, wool fleece on woolen armor. The region of Ghendje is located in the middle of the Caucasus, the carpets traded in Ghendje come from the vast surroundings and do not have a specific unit type. Wool is elastic and luster, even if the knot is not very Fine. The color scale is very rich colors are warm with plenty of cream white, light blue, a red bluish cochineal that recalls the proximity of Karabagh. The inverted decoration is very particular in our rug, which in the centre shows decorative elements more typical of the borders, while the borders are decorated with small medallion that normally decorate the central field.".
