Karakalpak (Uzbekistan) late 19th century 300 x 160 € 7,200 There is a popular Uzbek saying: "The house begins where a carpet spreads". The carpet in Uzbekistan is a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of a family and, therefore, is always included in the gifts given to young people at their wedding. The KARAKALPAKI ("black caps") are an ethnic minority of Turkish origin settled in Uzbekistan south of the Aral Sea. This carpet belongs to a rare type of tribal carpet with a brownfield with two rows of octagons that immediately bring to mind the typical gul of Turkmen carpets. At the same time, the two-headed animals represent purely tribal elements.
