Mid 19th Century Red Chodor Main Carpet

About the Item

The Chodor Turkmen inhabit the area of the Aral Sea in Central Asia once part of the ancient satrapy of Chorasmia. Chodor weaving, perhaps more so than any other western Turkmen group, exhibits an affinity to that of their Uzbek neighbors. This piece uses a field design seldom shared among other Turkmen groups, the "ertmen gul."
