19th Century Silk Road Suzani Embroidery with Green Vines
About the Item
Central Asian embroideries, known as Suzanis, are renowned for their dynamic and organic drawing and vivid natural color. This lively piece was embroidered in the vicinity of the ancient Central Asian city of Bukhara in the heart of the Silk Road. Large majestic red blossoms luminesce within a verdant network of green vine scroll. No fewer than five shades of green are used. Although the piece was drawn with a free hand, it also displays symmetry and balance. A large central blossom is flanked on top and bottom by pairs of palmettes, while blossoms of similar scale are drawn in each corner.
