Antique Indo/Persian Carpet Agra 19th, Fragment

About the Item

"Indo-persian carpet Agra 19th, Fragment" Fragment of Agra carpet, circa 1880. The Indian city of Agra, home to the infamous Taj Mahal, has an important and remarkable tradition of carpet weaving. Agra was a major production center for the best classic Mughal carpets. The city was also one of the three major centers of carpet production in India. Although the weaving industry was limited in this region, its workshops produced elegant antique rugs that were praised for their great originality and quality of workmanship. Semi-antique and antique Agra rugs are highly sought after and are some of the finest Indian decorative rugs. Agra rugs made in the early 20th century were generally more commercial in nature rather than exhibiting the superb quality of their ancestral counterparts. Carpets produced in the 19th century are universally loved by interior designers and collectors. Furthermore, Agra rugs are distinct and highly regarded works of art whose delicate color palette and whimsical designs are quite unique among antique decorative rugs. Overall, most 19th century Agra productions will also be considered superb artistic investments. Size: 303 x 138cm.
