About the Item
Original Tuareg mat handmade in the 1970s in Mauritania. This large specimen (360 x 197 cm) is composed of thin strips of natural wood, joined and woven with strips of leather, according to traditional techniques handed down by the nomadic peoples of the Sahara.
These mats were used as flooring inside tents to protect against heat and sand, combining functionality and aesthetic value. The geometric patterns imprinted in the leather tell of tribal and spiritual symbols typical of Tuareg culture.
Elegant in its essentiality, this mat integrates perfectly into contemporary interiors, ethnic spaces or wabi-sabi style environments. Lightweight, flexible and rollable, it is in good vintage and unrestored condition.
