1970s Gabbeh Rug Hand-Knotted in Wool Brown and Green

About

The Gabbeh are knotted by the women of the nomadic tribes that populated the South-West of Iran. Once they were used not only as rugs, but also as mattresses or blankets in tents, in fact they are soft and thicker than other Persian rugs. They are characterized by bright colors and primitive motifs with a rustic charm, based on linear geometric shapes. The colors are natural, made according to ancient recipes that use plants and roots like the pomegranate, the root of madder, the indigo. Rare is the green color of this rug.
