Antique Wool Persian Balouchi Rug, Circa 1910, Red and Gold, 3’ x 7’

About the Item

Hand knotted and organically dyed, this narrow red, gold, and black, semi-antique Persian Balouchi carpet measures 3’6´x 6’7” and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s Antique Collection. This glorious carpet was crafted in Iran using a Persian weaving technique. As commonly found in Balouchi carpets, the field’s design resembles a traditional Persian flower garden. The artisan utilized 21 geometric flower motifs and placed them in rows evenly throughout the carpets field. This complex interior design is then surrounded by a detailed and repetitive border that includes additional interconnecting flower and vine motifs. Woven over 50 years ago, this Balouchi carpet has stood up to the tests of time and is still in perfect condition. Unlike newly-made mass-produced rugs, the carefully honed techniques used to create older rugs produce a durable foundation without the use of toxic glues or latex.
